Sustenpass (from Wassen)

The Sustenpass (from Wassen) route on Rouvy climbs from Wassen – unsurprisingly, towards the 2260m Sustenpass between the Sustenhorn and Wasenhorn.

The route is a fairly consistent 7-8% climb, with only a few areas where the gradient plateaus, and only one real patch toward the pass where the gradient escalates much beyond 10%.

The view is dominated almost entirely by the stupendous view to the Wasenhorn, broken intermittently as it passes through the Alpine villages of Dorfli and Meien. The route passes through a couple of long tunnels through the rock, as well as a very striking avalanche cover at the beginning of the route. The coffee stop at Sustenbrüggli looks particularly enticing

Being a Rouvy Augmented Route the video quality is excellent throughout. The scenery is phenomenal, the weather is good, and the clouds give the sky good definition throughout. As much as we hated the consistent, steep, grade, we loved the video – this is one of our favourite Rouvy routes.
